There are several other retailers who have participated in this voluntary recall of Roman shades and roll-up blinds beginning in December 2009. The recall involves all custom ordered motorized and manual Lutron Shading Solutions Roman shades. Almost all these shades were professionally installed. If you suspect that your shades were involved in this recall, check the box for “Lutron Shading Solutions” or “Lutron Shading Solutions by VIMCO”. These shades were sold between January 2000 and August 2009 by Expo Design Centers and dealers.
The risk of strangulation occurs if a child puts his neck between the cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or pulls the cord out and wraps it around his neck. Strangulation can also occur if the shade’s chain is not attached to the wall or floor, and the child puts his neck into the chain’s loop. On January 19, 2010, Dorel Asia recalled about 65,000 cribs because they pose suffocation and strangulation hazards to infants and toddlers. So far there has been one infant death and 10 infant injuries reported. If you own one of these cribs, you should immediately stop using it until you install a replacement kit.
The reason the crib is being recalled is that the hardware for the drop side of the crib can fail, causing the drop side to detach from the crib, and creating a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped and suffocate or strangle. On January 21, 2010, Johnson Health Tech North America announced a recall on the Horizon Fitness and LIVESTRONG™ Fitness Elliptical Trainers due to fall hazard when the foot pedal can become disengaged.
